Although by the time the paper is finished the news will be out of date I still think that it is important to include the basis of a Manx story. I may branch out and make the story seem a lot more dramatic than it is, but to be fair that is what a lot of the Manx reporters do because there is very little major news that goes on here.
This is the major news from the week beginning Monday the 28th of January 2013. This really is nothing compared to the news that was in the Lancashire Evening News. However these are important issues to the Manx people and I choose a story that is local because it will show that this is a Manx paper and that it is focused on the Manx people and being independent from the other papers.

Screen shot on the 1st of Feb 2013
The main news lately has been about the bus strikes and also about the Governments plans to change the tuition fees regarding Manx students at university, both of these have caused several protests and a lot of publicity. Although they do not appear of this print screen they are featured on the local radio websites, which tend to update faster than the papers websites which is ran by 'Johnston Press'. This is because these radio stations are ran by Manx people and are all based here so it is easier and quicker for them to ring up the direct areas were they think there is news and see what they can report. This is the Manx Radio website www.manxradio.com and it was print screened on the 1st of February 2013 a couple of minuets after the screen shot of www.iomtoday.co.im.

Now you can see that there are a lot more local and important stories on the Manx Radio website than on the newspaper website. This is because 'Johnston Press' only update the website one a week apposed to Manx Radio who update their website every day.
This is one of the main reasons why I have decided to do the two hyperlinked pages to do with my paper because I think an online importance is very important when you are only printing a paper form of the paper once a week.
I think that the story I am most likely to use is the Governments proposal to change the current system for University funding as this is likely to attract my target audience of 16 - 25 as many of them will be looking into going into university or taking some form of higher education even if it based on the island and it will effect many of them.
As I have been follows this story and I have been attending the protest I have a good incite as to what is going on from the students point of view and that is the point that I am planning to focus on because it will attract more attention from readers.
The main points are the protest the presence on 'Facebook' and 'Twitter' that the students behind the campaign used to attract more supports and raise awareness to students that are all ready at university. There have been meetings between the students and the Education Minister but these are not going to get anywhere as they have still announced that it will go before 'Tynwald' (The Manx Government) in Februarys sitting.
The headline I could use for this story could be;
- Students say 'Tynwald will not educate'
- Cut the budget from somewhere else and don't punish our children.
- No time to save, now they want us to pay?
- MHK fired because he changed his mind, now what will happen?
