My Conclusion

Through analyzing the Manx papers I have noticed that there is no where near enough news to produce a daily paper. This is a very small island and as such it will be enough competition with bringing a new paper into the mix bringing in a daily paper would just be to much. I have noticed that each paper brings something different to the community the 'Courier' reports all the local cute stories that make people feel good about being part of a community and is mostly advertising based on the issues that I have looked at. The 'Examiner' is a paper of record that focuses on economic and government matters mostly with a lot of local input and it likes to get the community involved with things like the 'Green Column' and the community stories that are featured later in the paper. The 'Independent' is more like an all round paper that focuses more on targeting most of the population were as the 'Examiner' appeals to a specific selection of people. All of the papers kind of survive of one another when I looked at them in depth that was the main thing that I noticed. Adverts for the 'Independent' appear on the front page of the 'Courier' and the 'Examiner' is mentioned in the 'Independent' it is like a symbiotic relationship and is something that so many papers in such a small community need.

Bringing a brand new paper into the mix is something I know wont be easy so in stead I have decided to go for something a little like the 'i'. I am going to create a smaller weekly based paper that is aimed at the younger population with the option of having a lot more in depth stories online with easier access for people on the move. I have noticed that there really is a market for creating something online as Manx papers have nothing. This is what they all have online;

http://www.iomtoday.co.im/

The Manx newspapers don't have there own individual sites they all use this one I have posted the URL above. This site basically a collection of all the stories that are in this weeks papers. This is in one way good, in the sense that everything that local people need is all in one place, but on the other hand it means that none of the papers get individual recognition for what they publish, which is a down side and often you do not know which paper the story is from or if it is from a paper.

It just covers the basic and recently has changed to make it look more attractive because before it was just the most horrifically plain and boring site that was rarely updated and was not helpful at all. It has become a lot better but compared with some of the local papers websites that I looked at it is a bit rubbish. The stories on this site are basically the same as you get in the paper it is very rare that they go into anymore detail, although there is the option of other media sources such as video or pod casts. Which are sometimes used when they are needed but besides that it is limited.  Which gives me the option to come in and form a clear link between papers and technology for the young people of the Island. Some of the local papers that I looked at had their own apps for smart phones and this is something that I have no idea how to create but is something I think would be really good when trying to form a link between the youth, technology and
 papers. If i don not embrace the technology
 element of this idea it is going to fail miserably.
