Starting my paper.

So my idea is something like the 'i' so the first things that I need are a name and a mast head.

These are the mast heads for all 3 of the Manx papers that I have looked at and the one below is the masthead for the 'i'. I am looking at these for a bit of inspiration as  I have no idea what to call this paper and I am hoping this might just help me. I am aware that the 'i' is a smaller version of the 'Independent' in layman's terms, however I am unsure if I would be able to do this with one of these papers because all 3 of the Manx papers are owned by Johnston Press and as the brief is to create a new local paper  I don't think that I am able create a paper that is based on another paper that is owned from a different company.



So I think the best idea is one where I start an independent paper from the other 3 Manx papers that are all owned by the same company. I know that there is a market for a paper such as this because all 3 of the Manx papers have a symbiotic relationship were they just use and advertise from one another and in a area as small as this it is completely necessary. However bringing in a new paper that is completely independent is going to be a challenge and that is why I am aiming it at the younger audience because there is a serious gap in the market. During my research of Manx papers I realized that they are in no where near reaching an audience of 16 - 25 year olds. The 'Courier' is the free sheet that is aimed at everyone the reading age is very basic and it is around 60% adverts, the 'Independent' is properly the only paper that many young people feel that they could read. It does have local news as well as community stories and certain Government stories and kind of mixes it up a bit. The 'Examiner' is something that if you are not a business man, a person with an interest in economic and government or an older mature person you just should not both reading it. In terms of news yes it is informative on a lot about the island but, the way it is written is so dry and boring no young person is going to read it, it doesn't give them anything to read that they are going to be interested in and all of these things combined is the reason that I feel confident about creating my paper.
