Catching up

Over Christmas and New Year my posts have been none existent  however this does not mean I have not done any work. My laptop broke just before Christmas and trying to get a laptop fixed while everyone at 'Dell' was taking holidays was a challenge in itself. So to plan 'B' paper and pen. I used this time to look at the type of stories that I will be incorporating into my paper and they layout, house theme and other design details. I also spent a lot of time thinking about how I am going to make the technology side to this paper work as a defiantly want to create the webpages.
My final idea is to create a paper mainly aimed at the younger population of this Island as you can probably see from my analysis of Manx Papers, there is very little for people age 16 - 25. I also want to really have an emphasis on the technology side with an idea similar to the 'i'. I plan to have a paper as such but then I plan to be able to expand the content and depth I have also considered the idea of having various media forms on both the internet site and I am potentially looking at the idea of an app for a smart phone such as 'Android, Blackberry and Apple' even if I just advertise it as coming soon it is something that the youth will find attractive.
I don't see Johnston press trying this idea any time soon, they way the papers are the the minuet works for them they produce a little profit through sales but the main source of income is the advertising especially with 'The Courier'. The papers are making money as they are so why are Johnston press going to invest a load of money by improving the internet site and potentially developing an 'App' when it just isn't needed for the audience that these papers have. This island is also very reluctant to change as you can probably tell from some of the headlines I have analysed, and I wouldn't recommend messing with the papers content or anything like that as there was uproar when they decided that they papers were not going to be printed here.

My main influence for this idea is that through going to college and working in places that younger people tend to go, night clubs, pubs and coffee shops I have realized that very few of them read the local papers and this is because the way they are written makes you feel like you are about ninety when you read them, this is something that i really want to change.
So to appeal to the younger audience my general plan of attack is;

• include the local important news, politics, Government ect.
• include reviews on local night clubs and letting them know what is going on, however i plan for this to be in more detail than a list of things that currently appear in the papers.
• I also plan to include offers such as deals with 'Manx Telecom' an free door access to some of the night clubs and various stuff like that which will attract my target audience.
