The Papers Logo.

I am testing font for the papers logo, the ideal one would be one that is formal so that people don't think that it is a joke in the terms of papers but is modern enough to stick in the customers minds and be remembered.

This is one of my ideas,  its the font is called 'Engravers MT' and I found it on 'Microsoft Work'. I think that this font is quite formal but it does not give the memorable factor that I am looking for. It is very basic and does not stand out as much as I would want, this font would be perfect apart from this one point.

This font is called 'Byington' and was taken from 'Microsoft Word'. I think that this font is professional and it gives that formal look I am looking for. I think it is more distinctive than the previous one, the size difference between the I and the P is more distinctive and this makes it more memorable.

I think that this is the font I am going to use, I do think that black is a bit of a boring colour. To make it more eye catching I think I need to change the colour so that it will attract the attention of the readers and make sure that the name of the paper sticks in their minds.

This colour  is a pale dark blue that is a simple eye catching colour but the issues with this colour is that very similar to the 'Manx Independent'. As there are so few papers here the similar colour could potentially cause confusion between the papers and this is something when starting a new paper that I just can't afford.

This is a bright blue and it is very eye catching, again with the blue it is the same issue. People remember through association  and most of the Manx people will associate blue with the 'Manx Independent  and this is something that would not be good for my paper.

The bright green colour is eye catching and it also says many things about the paper being environmentally friendly in many peoples opinions. In modern society the colour green is linked with various 'Eco Friendly' publications and centers one on the island is the 'Green Center' which is in Douglas and offers free advice on how to 'cut your carbon footprint'. This again could potentially create confusion between my paper and other environmentally friendly publications.
The bright red colour is very in your face and really does catch your eye an awful lot and that is the main problem with it. Something this red is potentially problematic in the sense of  catching to much attention and I really don't think that this colour gives the right impression.

This grey/green colour is far to plane and boring for what I want. It is very neutral and is not every eye catching at all and this is the main issue with light colours.

This is a light brown colour and this is not an attractive colour, I think that it is not eye popping, it is just a really boring colour that wont really attract much attention to my paper.

This purple colour is stereotyped as being very  feminine and this and is created a problem, as it could potentially put male readers of the paper. It also is not a very bright colour which is something that would make it not every attractive or eye catching.

This is my last colour, its a slightly darker brown to the one I looked at just before. I though that by making it slightly darker It would make it look more professional but  I was wrong. It still doesn't look like an attractive, eye catching colour and I know that if it was on the front of the magazine/paper in the masthead it would put me of buying it so I am defiantly not going to put it on the front of my paper.

This colour appears to be the best one, in terms of catching attention and looking professional. It also doesn't not clash with any of the current Manx papers, as you can see. I still may possibly change it to make it a little bit darker because possibly it could draw to much attention to the mast head and people may ignore the content of the paper.
